Compounding time depends on the dosage form, the number of ingredients, and how many other prescriptions are being prepared at the same time. We recommend contacting us to confirm the turnaround time for your specific formulation. 

Bio-identical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones your body naturally produces. They are synthesised in laboratories from plant-based sources, such as diosgenin, extracted from soy or yams.

We source all active pharmaceutical ingredients from the Professional Compounding Chemists of Australia (PCCA) or Medisca  - our trusted suppliers. Each ingredient is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis to confirm its purity and quality.

There are two types of expiry dates to be aware of:

1. Prescription Expiry

• Standard prescriptions: valid for 12 months from the date of issue
• Schedule 8 (controlled drugs) or anabolic steroids: valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

2. Product Expiry

This refers to the expiry date of the actual compounded medicine. It is determined using APF (Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary) or USP (United States Pharmacopeia) guidelines, based on:

• Ingredient shelf life
• Formulation stability
• Use of preservatives

Every compounded item is assigned an individual product expiry date.

If you have Extras cover with your private health fund, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement of the cost of your compounded medication. Coverage varies between funds and levels of cover.

To make a claim, your health fund will require:

• The active ingredients in your compounded medicine
• A tax invoice, which we will provide, detailing the name of the compound, active ingredients, and their strengths

We recommended checking directly with your health fund to confirm your eligibility.

Some compounded prescriptions may be partially reimbursed under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) - but only if they are listed on the PBS Standard Formula List. Ask our pharmacists if your specific formulation qualifies.
